New Vendor's License Workshop announce!
As we mentioned in an email blasted out in December, visual artists who are selling work at Artomatic 419! this year are required to hold an Vendor's License in accordance with Ohio Law. In anticipation of this new requirement, ACGT will hold a workshop on Thursday, February 3 from 6-8pm to assist those who need it. The workshop will coach you through the registration process for the license. We are also here to answer questions along the way. The workshop will take place at the ACGT offices, 1838 Parkwood, Toledo, OH 43604. Email badams@acgt.org to reserve you spot in this free workshop.
AND, to make it easier to get your vendor's license, we're reducing the Artomatic 419! hanging fee to $20 per person, for the 2011 event only. The discount applies to all Artomatic 419! participants, whether or not you intend to sell your work, and whether or not you already have a vendor's license.
If you do not plan to sell work at the event, you are not required to hold a Vendor's License. If you do plan to sell work, we will enter your vendor's license number and contact information into our records at the time you pick and pay for your space during your space picking dates.
1/7/2011
We have another building!
To accommodate the great response we had for registrations, ACGT has secured a second space for Artomatic 419! In addition to our building at 407 Washington (made possible by STS Management, we will also occupy the building just down the block at 25 S. St. Clair St.
This former manufacturing facility is made available to us through the generous support of Martin & Wood Appraisal Group, who have been good neighbors in the St. Clair Village, where Artomatic 419! will take place this year!

Updates!
It recently came to our attention that in accordance with Ohio law, those wishing to sell work at the event are required to hold a Vendor's License. In anticipation of this, the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo (ACGT) will hold a Vendor's License Workshop on Thursday, December 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.
We are here to help you! The ACGT is embracing this requirement as an excellent opportunity for professional development for local artists, one more step that can help elevate Toledo-area artists a step above the rest. After all, sharing your creativity and developing yourself as an artist are what Artomatic 419! has always been about. The ACGT has resources available to assist you. Visit www.artomatic419.org to view a FAQ section about Vendo's Licenses.
AND, to make it easier to get your vendor's license, we're reducing the Artomatic 419! hanging fee to $20 per person, for the 2011 event only. The discount applies to all Artomatic 419! participants, whether or not you intend to sell your work, and whether or not you already have a vendor's license.
Who Needs One and Who Doesn't?
If you plan to sell work at Artomatic 419!, you need an Ohio Vendor's License. The ACGT is required by law to keep records of all vendors' names, addresses, license numbers, and types of goods sold. The Arts Commission and the artist are liable to fines for selling work without this license. Those wishing only to show their work and not intending to sell work at the actual event are not required to obtain a permit. If you are intending to sell work at Artomatic 419!, we need to receive you vendor's license information to put on file no later than Monday, February 28, 2011.
Obtaining & Reporting
The application process is simple, and the cost is $25, a one-time fee. Remember, however, that once you have a vendor's license, you MUST keep track of your sales and tax collected, and file your sales tax returns on time. This is simple as well: just a quick phone call or online form every six months will suffice (for artists with most types of vendor's license who make under $75,000 annually in sales), but if you fail to file or file late, even if you have no taxable sales in a reporting period, you will be fined.
Opportunity
Holding a Transient Vendor's License (one type of license) allows you the freedom to do business just about anywhere in the State of Ohio (restrictions may apply to some types of vendor's licenses). Many artists coming together to organize Œpop-up' galleries are able to do so legally due to their holding of a Transient Vendor's License. The ACGT is dedicated to professional development for artists and expanded opportunities for the arts to have an economic impact on our city. We are currently beginning the process to work with the City of Toledo to adjust current city laws that restrict street sales in the Central City Business District, the area that composes Downtown proper (roughly from Summit to 14th St, and Cherry to Lafayette). Our goal in working with the city to alter the limiting language is to allow local artists and craftsmen the ability and opportunity to set up and sell their wares on the sidewalks of Downtown Toledo.
Resources
We hope you'll be able to join us for our first workshop on December 16, 6-8p.m. at the ACGT Offices (1838 Parkwood). We will also hold another workshop on Thursday, February 3, 6-8pm. Please RSVP to the Workshop via email to badams@acgt.org.
You are welcome to contact the Arts Commission with questions anytime. Please email our Creative Industries Development Coordinator, Bridget Adams-Brewer, at badams@acgt.org or call 419-254-ARTS (2787) x 13. www.acgt.org
